Dockside Gallery
Re: Dockside Gallery
Does it reflect badly on me that I'm worried there is only 1 glass at this party? Although Michael is very sensibly bringing his own
Re: Dockside Gallery
Good point!
Hopefully they all belong to the same pod

Re: Dockside Gallery
King Mark becomes curious after noticing how Tristan and Isolde have become quite addicted to OW, and considers joining the project himself...
Re: Dockside Gallery
Excellent continuation!
Re: Dockside Gallery
Brilliant!!!
Re: Dockside Gallery
That's a cracker!
You go for it King Mark!

Re: Dockside Gallery
King Mark finds himself completely addicted to OW, to the point that he has begun to neglect his royal duties...
And that's the end of this little "saga".
Many thanks to Joan for the image that started it - thanks to you, I was able to use several images that had been lingering in my backlog for months.
Re: Dockside Gallery
He looks like he's got a log book with really bad writing!
Re: Dockside Gallery
A fitting end to a great saga!
Re: Dockside Gallery
It looks like he has a hard copy of Geographical help in his hand
Re: Dockside Gallery
He's looking for McKenna Harbor (current obscure place name from Capt Bodfish of the Beluga somewhere near Franklin Bay)
Brilliant finale to the saga! Glad to have been a part of it.

Link to the log page?
Re: Dockside Gallery
Doh!
Here you go: https://archive.org/details/logboookofb ... 8/mode/1up
September 5th (1897) is the date. End of line three and dripping down the page towards the end of line four
That'll have King Mark busy for a long time

King Mark thought https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/236161517.pdf was interesting, but not overly helpful...

Re: Dockside Gallery
Very cool article! Just think what they could have done with the whalers' log books!
Re: Dockside Gallery
Love the short piece on the Copper Inuit - fascinating. I haven't managed to drag out Bodfish's own book to see if McKenna Bay appears there. It probably has changed its name.Randi wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 7:00 pm King Mark thought https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/236161517.pdf was interesting, but not overly helpful...

Very interesting articles!
Here's what I noted for Michael who's been through lists as well, but with no luck:
There are a lot of places around that area that are named after whalers or whaler captains. There was a Capt. McKenna. I'm pretty sure that McKenna harbor is the name in the log, although Capt Bodfish notes Langton Bay (LB) as Langden Harbor the next day so he's not perfect.
Using the '40 miles south of C Perry (C. Parry)' (CP) brings you to Tom Cod Bay (TC) which certainly has long sand spits (although those features are not uncommon up here as you'll know). They have been dandling around this area for a couple of days working Franklin Bay (FB) between the islands leading up to C Perry and the Smoking Hills (SH). I'll keep looking for more clues, but sometimes it's too far back (though we are in 1897/8). Thanks again!
I'll swap this over to the Canada discussion topic tomorrow (hammock time just now)
Re: Dockside Gallery
I've been attempting watercolour painting for a few years now, going to a workshop about once a month and not really practising in between so not improving very much! Since the virus means we can't meet up, we've been doing a weekly challenge on-line, which means I've got to the stage where I'm not embarrassed by my efforts (most of the time!). This week's topic was transport so I did the Mersey Ferry that was given a makeover as part of 14-18 NOW WW1 art commissions, based on WW1 dazzle camouflage. So with the link to OW I thought I'd post it.
Re: Dockside Gallery
Well done jil - I think that this is wonderful. I'd be proud to hang that on my wall.
