Re: Handwriting Help and Spelling
Hello friends, I may need a new pair of eyes. Can anyone decipher what our lovely logkeeper has written in place of the longitudinal coordinates? Two images are below - the first in close-up view (rotated), the second in its original format (in the margins). It is for October 3, 1983 on page 143 (ht...

Re: Handwriting Help and Spelling
Our good logkeeper has a few different spellings for the Diomedes Islands (Diameads) and Faraway/Fairway/Farewell Rock. For the Diomedes Islands, he spells it: "the Diameas" (entry for August 16th) "the Dieameas" and "Diemeas" (August 17th) For Faraway/Fairway/Farewell ...

For anyone who is interested: there is a documentary series on Discovery Plus about an expedition team's mission of diving to the deepest points in all five oceans. It's called 'Expedition Deep Ocean.' Here is a trailer for the series: https://www.youtube.com/embed/s_6q0GSk5L4 The fifth and final ep...

Hi friends, My name is Sandy. I joined last week. The magic of Herman Melville and Google brought me here. I cracked open Melville's 'Moby-Dick' for the first time some days ago, and it immediately harpooned my heart. It renewed my lifelong fascination with the deep seas and introduced me to the wor...

Re: Log Pages for Transcribing - apply here!
Ha! Oh no, it's not your fault at all. We definitely are starting on page 118, as you wrote in the URL link. It's just the National Archive glitch you mentioned before. No problem though - it's very easy to navigate. You were right - the handwriting is a bit to get used to, but thankfully this logke...

Re: Log Pages for Transcribing - apply here!
GREAT! Thank you, that was very helpful. I get the hang of it now. I'm excited to get started. FYI - the first voyage page link in my Google doc actually brings me even further back to page 95. As the link opens, the National Archive URL automatically changes itself from page/118 to page/94. Just wa...

Thanks, Randi! I used Imgur (for the first time ever! It's good to learn new things). I tried both image uploading methods but have no idea why it's not working. Anyway, here's your birthday otter! https://imgur.com/a/uYR6gqE

Have a most wonderful birthday, Randi!!!
(I tried to upload an image but it didn't quite happen... it was an Arctic sea otter wishing you a very happy birthday. He's sporting a birthday hat and holding balloons that I drew in. Enjoy your day!)
