On the weather page, please enter: date, locations, distances, courses, and all the weather data in the columns outlined in red in the spreadsheet.
It is not necessary to record Sea Conditions or Swells from.
However, ice mentioned in the weather grid should be transcribed using the magenta Sea columns.

On the events page please enter: ice, location information, and sailing information.
Aurorae and volcanic activity should be reported in the forum.
Other events are optional.

One person can do both weather and events (Stream 1), but the system also allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Stream 3).
Unlike in OW3, where three transcriptions were required for each page, we are doing only one transcription per page.

Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date is used to organize the pages.
(If one transcriber does events and weather and they are in the same image, the date is only entered once.)

In Northwind 1951 the log keepers frequently use "set course" in situations that appear to be the same as "changed course." Examples at 0833 and 0952 on this page:

Is it okay to use the abbreviation "cc" for "set course" in these situations?

Yes.

As the Northwind travels among the Aleutian Islands I noticed that for hours at a time distance traveled is consistently 11.5 miles. With so much variation in wind and currents how can they be so consistently covering 11.5 miles nearly every hour? Are they intentionally adjusting their speed to maintain a distance of 11.5 each hour, lazy log keeping, or something else?

That's their speed in the water, not their speed over the earth as it were.

That explains it. I've just never seen such consistency in the logs for other ships.

Precision sailing or careless logging ?

I can't remember which one, but I recall seeing it on others. Ships in the fifties.

I will be doing Feb-June. Have spoken with Randi and Gordon, and they're cool with that.
