On the weather page, please enter: date, locations, distances (nautical miles and tenths), courses, and all the weather data in the columns outlined in red in the spreadsheet.
It is not necessary to record State of the Sea.
However, ice mentioned in the weather grid should be transcribed using the magenta Sea column.
On the events page please enter: ice, location information, and sailing information.
Aurorae, volcanic, and seismic activity should be reported in the forum.
The names of US Navy and Coast Guard ships met should be noted. This gives the science team a chance to compare weather readings. You can include all ships mentioned in a single entry without a time or any additional data.
Other events are optional.
One person can do both weather and events (Stream 1), but the system also allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Stream 3).
Unlike in OW3, where three transcriptions were required for each page, we are doing only one transcription per page.
Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date is used to organize the pages.
See
Haida — General for some general background and discussion.
See
Haida — Examples for a quick introduction to transcribing or a refresher.
See
Transcribing Guide to learn how to transcribe the data.

April done and uploaded. Yet Another trip back north - although I am VERY grateful that this ship always takes the outside route!
I will start May, but highly doubt I will finish it before I have to send my computer away to get the display issue fixed, which will supposedly take 5-8 work days, not including shipping.
So it will be some time before I can report my next upload.

Easy - I will do the WW2 project, as I will still have my work computer
(We're allowed to use our work computers for private stuff, as long as we don't install any apps/do anything illegal)

Sent my laptop away today. It will supposedly take 5-8 business days, not including shipping. I did provide some info that will hopefully speed up the diagnosis part.
Anyways, this means it will be some time before I make any more progress on this year, but I will keep it reserved for now, as there are plenty of other logbooks available.

Good luck with the laptop. Have fun with the WW2 stuff... Just don't get sucked away from us though...

My laptop has been repaired and returned!
Sure took a while - at first, they said the required part wasn't available, so they were gonna send me a new one, then the very next day they said the part was available after all
Still, the main thing is that I have it back - and before I go to New Jersey too! Not planning to bring it along, but I was very much hoping to have this all taken care of before I go.
Anyways, I will get back to transcribing soon - the repair company did a complete purge of my laptop when they were done, so I have to reinstall and restore everything first. I have backups of everything important, of course, but it takes a while to apply 'em.

On May 22nd, the Haida received a distress call from the Star of Faulkland, which was on rocks at Akun Head.
She set off at once, with the Unalga, and got there the next day.
It sounds like alcohol was involved, as several of the 52 survivors the Haida took on were drunk, and a large quantity of liquor (which was chucked overboard!) was found amongst their belongings.
The Unalga stayed longer to assist some survivors and await the arrival of the SS Arctic, which was also coming to help.
The Haida took the survivors to a cannery near Cape Creig, arriving the next day.

May done and uploaded. The Star of Faukland rescue was the biggest event, there was also one ice mention.
Since my summer vacation has been pushed back a week, I will see how much I can do before I go - definitely one month, maybe two.

Something just occurred to me about the Star of Falkland incident: Maybe they chucked the booze overboard because of Prohibition! This was 1928, and Prohibition lasted from 1920 to 1933.
