On the weather page, please enter: date, locations, distances, courses, and all the weather data in the columns outlined in red in the spreadsheet.
It is not necessary to record Sea Conditions or Swells from.
However, ice mentioned in the weather grid should be transcribed using the magenta Sea columns.

On the events page please enter: ice, location information, and sailing information.
Aurorae and volcanic activity should also be reported.
Other events are optional.

One person can do both weather and events (Stream 1), but the system also allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Stream 3).
Unlike in OW3, where three transcriptions were required for each page, we are doing only one transcription per page.

Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date is used to organize the pages.
(If one transcriber does events and weather and they are in the same image, the date is only entered once.)

Ice hunting transcriptions were done for January through 28 April, so only the date and the weather need to be done now.
No transcriptions were done for April 29 through December, so a full transcription is needed.

0025 - Observed major fire on waterfront at Juneau Spruce Company lumber dock. Made preparations for getting underway. Organized Fire and Rescue party.
0050 - CGC CITRUS unmoored and departed to assist.
0055 - Underway on various courses and speeds in Juneau Harbor proceeding to Juneau Spruce Company dock.
0140 - Moored bow on Juneau Spruce Company dock. Fire and Rescue party away to assist local fire department to extinguish fire.
0330 - Fire under control
0523 - Fire extinguished. CGC CITRUS moored Juneau Spruce Comapnay dock standing by. Underway on various courses and speeds returning to Government dock to stand by and await further developments. Company buildings total loss. Estimated damage $500,000.00.

Michael wrote: The voyage for 1949 has been completed, many thanks to adflora for an outstanding job of transcribing. It was the usual seemingly endless number of lighthouse supply runs, although we did support the Juneau Salmon derby in August.

The voyage plot can be seen here. The larger gaps appearing in the westward across to the Aleutian Islands is due to time zone changes where they do 120 minutes of travelling in one hour.

If you wish to see the voyage in more detail, you can download the KML file here, which can be viewed in Google Earth. It's worth it just to zoom in and see the number of hours they spend going in and out of Juneau. ;D
