On the weather page, please enter: date, locations, distances, courses, and all the weather data in the columns outlined in red in the spreadsheet.
It is not necessary to record Sea Conditions or Swells from.
However, ice mentioned in the weather grid should be transcribed using the magenta Sea columns.

On the events page please enter: ice, location information, and sailing information.
Aurorae and volcanic activity should be reported in the forum.
Other events are optional.

One person can do both weather and events (Stream 1), but the system also allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Stream 3).
Unlike in OW3, where three transcriptions were required for each page, we are doing only one transcription per page.

Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date is used to organize the pages.
(If one transcriber does events and weather and they are in the same image, the date is only entered once.)

Ice hunting transcriptions were done for January and February and for July 17 to September 13, so only the date and the weather need to be done for those months now.
No transcriptions were done for March to July 16 and September 14 through December, so a full transcription is needed for those months.
No pages are available for May,

See Burton Island -- General for some general background and discussion.
See Burton Island -- Examples for a quick introduction to transcribing or a refresher.

See the Transcribing Guide to learn how to transcribe the data.
Post in Ask Questions Here or this topic if you have questions.

Where can I find details on Wx (Weather) on this ship Wx entries are numbers, and Vis in tenths but entries can be up to 100.
What units is Ceiling in?

Column 1, item 18 for Ceiling.

Coghlan uses a slightly different log format, but hopefully the coding is the same.

I'm making progress, albeit very slowly, with Panay II. She's almost in Ichang in December 1930. The river has changed so much in the last 90 years.

If it's OK and not too ambitious, I would tentatively like to reserve the rest of 1950. Because it's easier to download all the files at one go (while the archives site is up). Also, it's less disruptive if you stick to one ship for a longer period, rather than a few months here with one ship and then off to another.

(Actually, I have already downloaded all the files)

I had already marked the year as reserved in Current ships ;)

I just updated the Transcription Status document.

I always reserve a whole year at once, sleepyowl, and have been doing it that way for months.
So it's perfectly OK for you to do the same. :)

Well, you never know, someone else might be pining to do Burton Island 1950 ;) If I had come late to China Station and all years had been reserved, I would have been heartbroken! :D
