Hello Zooniverse!

Today we are launching a new Zooniverse project - GhanaPhenoPulse.

Plants provide important source of food, fodder and medicine for both animals and humans. These materials come directly from leaves, flowers and fruits. These resources are mostly seasonal and can be affected by shifts in climate. Without knowing the time they occur, it will not be possible to determine how seasonal changes affect the availability of these resources. Think about the implications for animals that feed on leaves, flowers and fruits and for people too!

The goal of the GhanaPhenoPulse project is to track the timing of leaf, flower and fruit events in some forest canopies in Ghana. Tree climbing methods are used to mount cameras in tree canopies. The cameras take daily images of the tree crowns so no events are missed.

Help the team identify the presence of flowers and fruits and leaf stages (new leaves, mature leaves, drying leaves and leaf shedding) in these pictures. The aim is to generate analysis-ready dataset that can help track the timing of leaf, flower and fruit resources in Ghana forests.

Hello Zooniverse!

Thanks to the internet, we can now gather information from around the world in real time. Many researchers use online news articles to analyse how people perceive wildlife. However, using keyword searches could lead to mistakes — articles like “Toronto Blue Jays Score Season High” would be put in the wildlife category, while clearly referring to sports.

New Zooniverse project Nature SPAM Filter is comparing human responses and machine learning models to develop a tool that can quickly identify content about wildlife. This will help conservation scientists more accurately use media to understand what motivates people to care about wildlife and act to protect it.

Look at real newspaper article titles and complete a simple yes-or-no task to identify animals and wildlife in the news.

Safety note: Please be aware that, unfortunately, as most news today, some titles can reference topics that people may find distressing, including war, violence, crime, and other sensitive subjects.

Visit and try Nature SPAM Filter at https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/dve ... pam-filter

Happy classifying!
