SCRABBLE. A badly written log. This term is used by the translators of the Bible at David's feigned madness, when he "scrabbled on the doors of the gate." The Sailor's Word-Book

(E10 to E04) Manatee Awareness Month (November)

Boca Raton, FL – As we enter November, it's time to reflect on an important anniversary for Florida's iconic marine mammal:
Manatee Awareness Month is a month-long celebration dedicated to raising awareness about manatees, their conservation status, and the actions individuals can take to contribute to their protection.

7Th Nov 1861
Naval forces under the command of Flag Officer Samuel DuPont steam into (H5) Port Royal Sound, South Carolina, pouring withering fire into Forts Beauregard and Walker and forcing the Confederates to abandon the positions. With only minor resistance from a Confederate squadron, the Union ships put ashore landing parties that occupy the forts until relieved by Army troops under General William T. Sherman. The capture of Port Royal yields 43 Confederate cannon, and the victorious Du Pont writes, “It is not my temper to rejoice over fallen foes, but this must be a gloomy night in Charleston.”

G6 across BEAVER MOON
https://www.almanac.com/content/novembe ... s-folklore
November’s full Moon is traditionally called the Beaver Moon. In the colonial era, this was the month to set one’s
beaver traps before the swamps froze and beavers retired to their lodges, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs.
In 2024, November’s full Moon occurs on Friday, November 15.

1st November EDITED
(K01-K15) All Saints' Day (Apostrophy after saints)
In the year 835 AD the Roman Catholic Church made 1st November a church holiday to honour all the saints. This feast day is called All Saints' Day.

All Hallows
All Saints' Day used to be known as All Hallows (Hallow being an old word meaning Saint or Holy Person). The feast day actually started the previous evening, the Eve of All Hallows or Hallowe'en.

However, there are no letters for All or Day to connect to.

C12 across, reversed CRANBERRY

https://www.almanac.com/all-about-cranb ... can-native:
The Pequot people of Cape Cod call the berry ibimi, meaning “bitter berry,” and traditionally combined crushed cranberries with dried venison and fat to make a winter superfood called “pemmican.”
The Pilgrims and those who followed appreciated the wild berries but did not start cultivating them until 1816, when a bog was planted and tended in the coastal town of Dennis, Massachusetts. By then, American and Canadian sailors on long voyages knew they could eat cranberries to protect themselves from scurvy—making them a cranberry counterpart to British “limeys.”
