* Nine of the first ten pages are rotated 90 degrees, but only one weather page is affected.
Jan 20 to Feb 6, Mar 16, May 6-9, and Jul 1-6 and 8-9 use a slightly different log format.
Depending on how comfortable you are with spreadsheets, you can:
- Adjust the existing spreadsheet to fit the new format: example.
- Ask Michael or Randi to adjust the spreadsheet for you.
- Avoid doing these months.

On the weather page, please enter: date, locations, distances (nautical miles and tenths), courses, and all the weather data in the columns outlined in red in the spreadsheet.
It is not necessary to record State of the Sea.
However, ice mentioned in the weather grid should be transcribed using the magenta Sea column.

On the events page please enter: ice, location information, and sailing information.
Aurorae, volcanic, and seismic activity should be reported in the forum.
The names of US Navy and Coast Guard ships met should be noted. This gives the science team a chance to compare weather readings. You can include all ships mentioned in a single entry without a time or any additional data.
Other events are optional.

One person can do both weather and events (Stream 1), but the system also allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Stream 3).
Unlike in OW3, where three transcriptions were required for each page, we are doing only one transcription per page.

Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date is used to organize the pages.

See Sacramento: general for some general background and discussion.
See Sacramento: examples for a quick introduction to transcribing or a refresher.

See Transcribing Guide to learn how to transcribe the data.

Would like to reserve the log pages in January. Will go back for the event pages after I get some practice.

Aha! I'll be glad to do the Events pages...but in the tracker I only see pages up to the end of January. I've PM'ed you so now we have two parallel conversations going... ;)
Randi wrote: Sat Jan 07, 2023 2:31 am Great!

However, since ahecker did do all the weather pages for February, you only need to do the events pages.
Unlike Old Weather: Whaling, Old Weather: Federal ships uses a single transcription.

You are not the first to be confused by the tabs in the tracker. They are at the bottom rather than the top.

Sending you a PM to reply to your PM and continue the conversation :D

I think I upload weather and events for first half of March 1923. I uploaded in batches. There might be some duplicates. Or I might not have successfully uploaded anything. Keep me posted.

Starting to work on July 1923. I've followed the tutorial so fingers crossed, I'm not messing this up.

Note when I uploaded, I used an old Google docs account that doesn't match my user name. Is this going to mess things up?

That shouldn't make any difference.
I checked, and 10 files were uploaded.

Great job!
