On the weather page, please enter: date, locations, distances (nautical miles and tenths), courses, and all the weather data in the columns outlined in red in the spreadsheet.
It is not necessary to record State of the Sea.
However, ice mentioned in the weather grid should be transcribed using the magenta Sea column.

On the events page please enter: ice, location information, and sailing information.
Aurorae, volcanic, and seismic activity should be reported in the forum.
The names of US Navy and Coast Guard ships met should be noted. This gives the science team a chance to compare weather readings. You can include all ships mentioned in a single entry without a time or any additional data.
Other events are optional.

One person can do both weather and events (Stream 1), but the system also allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Stream 3).
Unlike in OW3, where three transcriptions were required for each page, we are doing only one transcription per page.

Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date is used to organize the pages.

The logkeeper has now started to log 2 bara readings on the same line.
No explanation why, maybe Hg and android?

It slows me down having to type 13 keys per entry. Ex 30.03 | 30.22

Hmmmmm. It looks like they do that to the end of that batch of images, which looks to be about a month away. I don't even know what I would do with those two readings. So, put a note in a Transcriber's Comment, that there are two readings, but just record the first reading.

I looked back a page to see when they started recording two. The readings from when there was just one reading to when there were two, suggests that the first reading of the pair is the instrument they were using all along. If they had mentioned something in the log to tell us what the two readings were, we might have thought of something different. The only other way to handle it, IMHO, would be to enter all the second readings with two Event/Other/Instruments entries: one for hours 1-12 and the other for hours 13-24. However...

It looks like the second reading is about .12" lower than the first. I suspect you're correct about one barometer is Hg and the other is an aneroid.

Maybe they suspected their old barometer was giving bad results and started using a second. Then with the two giving different results decided to record both values until they could determine which one was correct. Were they in port when they stopped recording both? Maybe they had a chance to compare to another barometer in port (or if still at sea, maybe a nearby ship) so that they knew which one was correct. You would think they would put something in the log if that were the case.

I didn't do a really thorough search, although they were recording two values until the end of the pages with that index. I might put that on my list of things to do...

Just arrived in Tahiti. Baro reading seem to follow on from TOP readings.

Double reading seem to stop from this page on (in port and at sea)

(Personally I do not think it makes much difference as long as the same position value is used each time as all it shows is the pressure trend.)
I ask to be able to just use the TOP reading and make a note in the file to that effect.

Perhaps put in a Transcriber's Comment when they stop doing two readings, too.

Any ideas that the letter in the DIR column is after SW by ? at hour 1 and after the N? at hour 7?

I am taking it to be a W even though it does not match the other Ws.

Shows (to me) in events at 1130hrs a change of course to WNW where as in the log it shows NNW?
