On the weather page, please enter: date, locations, distances (nautical miles and tenths), courses, and all the weather data in the columns outlined in red in the spreadsheet.
It is not necessary to record State of the Sea.
However, ice mentioned in the weather grid should be transcribed using the magenta Sea column.

On the events page please enter: ice, location information, and sailing information.
Aurorae, volcanic, and seismic activity should be reported in the forum.
The names of US Navy and Coast Guard ships met should be noted. This gives the science team a chance to compare weather readings. You can include all ships mentioned in a single entry without a time or any additional data.
Other events are optional.

One person can do both weather and events (Stream 1), but the system also allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Stream 3).
Unlike in OW3, where three transcriptions were required for each page, we are doing only one transcription per page.

Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date is used to organize the pages.

I will do this one when I finish 1880.

Started.

1315, Sent a boat & officer with tender of assistance to British Steamer "Alicia", grounded in bay during fog: assistance declined. On return, boat picked up two of "Alicia's" boats crew, capsized while laying out anchor, thisrd man lost.

Humph! It sounds like they should have accepted.
Then again maybe it was lucky for the two from the capsized boat that they didn't.

28th Jan.
1300 Called all hands to quarters, and ship and crew were inspected by Comd'r Miller and Comd'r Woodward.
1315 Called all hands to muster - when Comdr Woodward assumed command of this ship releiving Comdr Miller who is detatched and placed on sick leave.

There was a number of recorded course changes which were noted as being by the order of Comd'r Miller during the "break in" commissioning voyage.
I have not seen any other course changes being noted in this way.

Looks like they kept him away from active duty after that voyage.

A number of courses changes on Omaha are noted as being ordered by the Captain. I'm not sure why they're any different than the other courses changes.

Perhaps they want to make it clear who is to blame if they get into trouble

It's not the CC that were different, just the notation that Comd'r Miller ordered them.

Yeah, I got that. I just don't know why sometimes they mention that the captain orders them.
