I was curious to see how our normal temperatures are changing. Meteorologically speaking, an normal value is the average value over a set 30 year period, usually starting with year one of a decade, like 1941-1970. The two international airports in my general vicinity are both in rural areas and close to water, so there will be little, if any, effect from urban heat islands.
In 2013, Environment Canada no longer took observations from Canadian airports. The weather observations were taken by Nav Canada. Rather than trying to merge data from stations at the same location but with different climate numbers, I just took the last period to be 9 years long.
This is what I found...

Well, the bad air from wildfires made it over to us here in Northern Virginia. Looking fairly hazy outside, although certainly not as bad as NYC. Decided I'll move my air purifier downstairs during the day while this lasts.
I saw the Phillies game got postponed because of air. Randi, you're in Pittsburgh, right? How is the air in your area?

Yes, I'm in Pittsburgh.
The weather site says the air quality here is poor.
However, I do not see any haze or notice any problems.

I remember the first year I came to California, on a Sunday I was indoors from midmorning to late afternoon. When I finally looked out the whole sky had a otherworldly orange glow and haze. I had never seen anything like it.

Got up to a 1.4c (app temp 0.4c) morning, sun will rise in 3/4 hr.
Expecting 17c
What a change to come back from my UK holiday.
I had two slight drizzle days (in 3 weeks) and the rest I was wearing shorts and short sleeves and still perspiring.

1900 7.4c felt like 6.5c
Midnight 3.6c felt like 2.1c
0700 0.8c feels like -1.1c
Hoping for 17c today.
I think I should go back to the UK where it was warmer.

Normal summer service for the weather in the UK has been resumed.
Apart from about 10 mins of drizzle last Sunday there had been no rain for weeks here until this morning (and more forecast for later). Although some of my friends, who live about 10 miles away, had a torrential thunderstorm last Monday that caused some flooding in their town.
Temperatures reached 30C on a couple of days last week, back to a much more pleasant (for me) 22C predicted for today.
Just back from the allotment and only had to water in the greenhouse - bliss!

Yes indeed, Jil. I was visiting brother who lives in your general area. Monday night we just got into the restaurant when the heavens opened and thunder started. No flooding but the BT system was affected. Brother lost internet as did some other locals while a friend who lves the other side of the restaurant lost phone but kept internet. It seems to have finished off his elderly router but apparently another one is on its way.

Shorts and tee shirt then is now jeans and long sleeve.
0.6c feels line -2.7 at 0700 this morning. Expecting 16 and sunny.

We have an air quality alert for a second (third?) day due to the fires in Canada.
I don't notice any smell, but it is definitely hazy. Things only a block or two away have a slight gray tinge and are just a bit fuzzy.
A friend who has lived in Pittsburgh for 60-plus years said that this is nothing compared to what used to be normal haze when the steel mills were working!

Not seen one of these before but I am sure Michael would have.
