More interesting weather facts from the good old ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation, NOT the American one).
The video may help early OWs to understand the rain cycles and factors about unusual rainfall.

Sydney is 100km south of us.

Here is the probability of rain at Victoria International airport, for SE wind for various wind speeds in knots:

1-418
5-828
9-1545
16+71

You can see that rain is four times more likely with a wind speed over 15 knots than in the range of 1-4..

Oh yes, these stats are for the months Sep-Oct-Nov.

Ooops. I over-wrote the original post.

But, you get the idea.

Australian rainfall records tumble as NSW and Murray-Darling Basin record wettest October on record.

I like these slide photos (but not the results).
Slide the centre line left or right.

Some towns have been flooded 3 times this year. ( I mean water half way up the ground floor and some up to roof level.)
The government is considering a compulsory buy back of some properties in the worst areas.

Wednesdays report.

Had a great trip to Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. We were about 4000 feet elevation (different than my usual 55 feet) It rained Tuesday evening, I woke up to little bouncing snow pellets. Later on we had great big flakes. The Air temperature was plenty above freezing and everything at our level melted on impact. Higher mountains dusted in snow. Great 1-day trip. Saw 2 bears and a bobcat walked past me on the trail. No rain here at 55 feet.
