On November 19 a final effort was made before calling off the search for the SS George Walton:
0945 Received word that the tug Island Commander passed from Amphitrite Point to Lennard Island close ashore, without sighting wreckage or any sign of the SS. Walton
1004 Maneuvering at various courses and speeds investigating oil slicks and floating debris with the assistance of C.G. PBY5A.
1230 Secured from search for SS GEORGE WALTON set course for Seattle Washington.
2048 Boat from Port Angeles Air Station alongside to starboard. The following men departed ship for Port Angeles:
Dr. U. C. Taylor USPHS, Dr H. R. Terry USPHS, Wesley Mount HM1 USCG and Charles Keim Associated Press.
2055 Boat departed from ship.

GEORGE WALTON (scroll down), the tug Barbara Foss finally towed the SS GEORGE WALTON to Puget Sound.

I came across this history of Thea Foss who founded what eventually became Foss Maritime. The company has a tradition of naming its tug boats after family members. I've seen the Foss name come up frequently around here, but didn't know the history. I figured it must have been someone important and it appears she was quite an amazing woman.

On November 26 the Coast Guard Cutter Klamath collided with the Northwind in Seattle.
0700 CGC KLAMATH unmooring from pier 90 was caught by force 4 South wind and broached into starboard bow causing minor dents between frames 7 and 12 approximately two (2) feet below main deck level and one dent at frame eight (8) approximately one and one-half (1.5) feet above main deck level.

1745 Fire in exhaust stack of #4 ship's service generator. Shifted to #3 ship's service generator.
