Are you going to Darwin, taking the Ghan and then the Indian Pacific? That will put you on the world's longest straight stretch of railway track, a 478-kilometre (297 mi) stretch of the Trans-Australian Railway across the Nullarbor Plain. Otherwise, I'm stumped.

3 down Cairns, Cassowary, Riga, 2 to go (mistake in previous)

I do not have a mouth and after being born, I just go out looking for a mate. My name gives the impression I may be strong.
The biggest one found was 36 cm wide. I am found in this area. (What am I?)

Next week at one of the stops on our 4 day train trip I will be entering the largest one of these in the world. (What is it?)

Not going to Darwin.
Tip, Train departs from Cairns.

Is the train trip the Savannahlander? Although if it is I can't work out what the large thing is.

My guess for the 'large thing' would be the Undara Lava Tubes. :kangaroo: :kangaroo: :kangaroo:

Well done everybody. ;)
:kangaroo:

Next week I go on a 700km (approx) flight, a short 4x4 drive and a 600mtr walk to a place where if I go further north I fall off the edge of Australia and get wet.

Link to some pictures. (They seem to have got out of sequence, sorry)

Cape York is the northern most point in Australia ??
I read the signage in your pictures; interesting how so many cultures have creation stories that include snakes (many have fruit). Rainbows are also frequent myth stories. Almost every culture had a flood.
Safe travels Stuart and keep keep us guessing on your way.

See any Tachyglossi on your trip?

I would have to say my adopted favorite is the wombat for their poop cubes, but second on my list is the echidna after a group of school kids swooned in adoration when they arrived at the echidna enclosure at the Sydney Zoo.

Before you look at the link below, my current location is one word, two syllables.
First syllable, I am usually green and can be found on rocks and trees.
Second syllable, I am one of the genders.

I also visited this place which adds on to the above place.
Next word, I like to eat a lot.

As you have seen most of the trip up to Cairns I will now just put up a link to a web site that I was shown at Mission beach so it only shows from there.
The link.
https://www.polarsteps.com/StuartFrankl ... inter-2012

We turn round from here.
I will try and just add to the polarsteps with my pictures from now on.

Correct Randi.
No stopping you. :D

The link is now open.

Next place we will park, will be at a place which sound a little like a product that repels insects.

When you get it you will know why it was hard to give a clue. ;)

OK so no one got it. Paronella Park.

Park, Citronella

Moving ever onwards, I got in hot water for picking the next place to stop for 2 nights on the way to our current location.

Where we are now should be easy.

The city is has a Geomagnetic and Seismic observatory.
