Raccoons are so cute, but so mean and vicious.

Many years ago on a backpacking trip we caught them trying to steal food from our backpacks. When we tried to chase them away, they stood their ground, snarling and growling at us. I seem to remember throwing things at them to scare them off. Fortunately, they finally decided we were bigger than them and they slowly turned and left.

I often see them at night in my neighborhood. They sometimes get into noisy fights with the local cats. They are very common throughout North America.

Ah - they sound avoidable then I'll stick with my hedgehogs and badgers

They generally avoid people unless there's food involved and tend not to be that much of a problem. They're just not good neighbors.
