OW'er explains to comrades how listening to music while transcribing can really improve your output.

You can't quite get a steady rhythm with the whalers. But some good rock-along music really helps
Which reminds me to post in
Watcha listening to?

Signs of OW addiction #92: You become so obsessed with OW that you dream of it!
I actually have had dreams of OW at least twice - has anyone else?

Oh I'd love to be able to nod off in a chair - nice

Now you ask - yes I have dreamt about it. I played deck quoits on the Acacia in Gibraltar years ago. I helped throw the tryworks (unknown whaler) into the harbour at San Francisco (can't recall which ship reported actually doing this) during Phase 1 of OWW. Recently I've been on an Arctic flower seed collecting trip whilst sledding ice on Cape Bathurst. I also seem to recall a trip at sea heading west from Point Barrow in glorious September weather, lovely sunshine and a fair wind.
Perhaps I should not drink coffee quite so late before bedtime?

Nodding off like that would probably give me a terrible cramp in the neck these days
Several years ago, I had some surgery and saw a log page while under the anesthetic.

I'm pretty sure I've had dreams about being unable to find out where the ship is. Bearings made no sense and none of the places existed!

Your secret is out Michael - you've been reading the whaling log books

No. Coast Guard and Navy logbooks give me bad dreams. Whaling logs would give me nightmares!!!

From the Eurythmics:
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world and the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something
Sweet dreams are made of this
I'm just looking for a logkeeper who can write a position, course or bearing correctly.

I'll pack you some sandwiches and a flask of tea - you'll be waiting along time to find that person
(great to see the magnificent Annie Lennox - love her voice)

It's a bit like 'pressing the King's shilling' as they used to in the old days.
