Randi- I hear you have snow, lost a bridge and President Biden is coming to town. Hope the bridge doesn't impact daily life too much. Hope everyone recovers quickly.

'Major artery' of a bridge crumbles Friday morning ahead of President Biden's visit to talk infrastructure

Thank you!
I don't think it will have any impact on me although it sounds like it will impact a lot of other people.

I read about the bridge earlier: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-60173771
Glad to hear there were no serious injuries. It looks scary though!

The 2021 weather from our house. The records are based on the University of Victoria weather station, which has records back to 1993. The automatic weather station is operated by Environment Canada, and their readings are very similar to the ones from our house.

We broke the previous maximum temperatures by over 2 degrees, and we shattered the total annual precipitation record, which was almost three times more than the record low and almost double the normal amount.

Code: Select all

Our maximum temperature of 39.9 is a new record.
The previous highest temperature was 37.8 set in 2021.
The normal annual maximum temperature is 31.9.
In 2011 the highest temperature was only 28.0.

Our mean temperature was 10.9.
In 1998 the highest mean temperature was only 12.2.
The normal annual mean temperature is 11.0.
The lowest mean temperature was 9.8 set in 2011.

Our lowest temperatures was -9.2.
The lowest temperature was -11.2 set in 2008.
The normal annual minimum temperature is -5.5.
In 2015 the lowest temperature was only -1.3.

Our total precipitation of 1150.4 mm was a new record.
The previous record was set in 2021 with 913.6 mm of precipitation.
The normal amount of precipitation is 659.6 mm.
The driest year was 2000 with 398.0 mm.

We had 169 days of precipitation.
The year with the most days of precipitation was 2007 with 202 days.
The normal number of days with precipitation is 165.
The year with the most days of precipitation was 1993 with 118 days.

Please note, I am not really complaining, but we hit a high of 30 C degrees today- Humidity is 10%. Actually, my nose IS complaining. I suppose if I was out and about and wore my face mask the dry air would not be so bad. Clouds with silver lining concept.

I saw an article in the news about how you will probably shatter a few maximum temperature records. I think San Diego issued a heat warning!!! February???

Not sure this is "weather" but seemed to fit here best.

Did you folks in the Vancouver area see this rouge wave? I supposed you had to be standing there at the right moment. I hope someone come up with a picture of it

The article says it was back in November 2020, so I don't remember anything about it. The Pacific Ocean does get major rogue waves.

Good luck to any members down South. We had a potential amber wind alert yesterda. Yes, it was breezy but I've been in worse and it stopped several hours earlier than the original forecast. Today's yellow warning was removed overnight. Some people did have problems and there were trees down on railway lines but overall not as bad as the forecast. So, all I can say is that I hope the latest storm is like that for you. Not quite as bad as forecast and round here, at least, no significant damage.

The storm had passed here, south of London, by about 5pm. It started around 10am.
Damage has been limited to fallen trees and fences in this neighbourhood.
I think we got off lightly.
The storm is now battering Belgium and the Netherlands, I believe.

Record of the day: On the Isle of Wight, a gust of 122mph [196 kmh], measured at an exposed point on the west of the island, set a provisional record for England.
