Seattle is back in a hot stretch again. The forecast highs for Kent are 36 today and 37 tomorrow, although at my house it usually gets a bit warmer than the forecasts. After that, a slow cooling down to 24 with possible rain on Monday.

Now on top of the heat, smoke from the wildfires has arrived. The forecast is for unhealthy air today and tomorrow. It's currently rated moderate, but I am already noticing a little difficulty breathing. Time to break out the N-100 masks and attach filters to the fans. We are still fortunate to be far better off than much of western North America.

Today was hot!
Now we're having a thunderstorm, which is not great, but it has cooled things off nicely.

I don't know if you will be envious or sympathetic but high here is 18 and showery. The next few days are dryer but 17/18 and the occasional night into single figures.

PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE • SATURDAY, AUGUST 14, 2021 • WWW.POST-GAZETTE.COM
NOAA: July was hottest month on record
Pittsburgh weather set no new highs
Post-Gazette news services
...
The Pittsburgh area didn’t go along with the trend.
Although the globe was bringing in the heat last month, Pittsburgh was fairly consistent with previous years’ averages. The average temperature here was 72.5 degrees, about 0.6 degrees lower than usual, but 10 degrees above the global average.
According to Max Gawryla, a meteorologist with AccuWeather, based in State College, the trends “absolutely” coincide with Pittsburgh’s love for rain.
“It looks like the average normal rainfall that Pittsburgh gets in July is around 3 inches. This past July we saw just over 4.25. When you get those rainier patterns, they end up typically coming with lower pressure in the atmosphere, cloudier skies — all of these things sort of contribute to cooler temperatures than you’d otherwise see,” he said.
Pittsburgh’s July saw no record-breaking high temperature days, nor any days sneaking into the 90s. Mr. Gawryla said we came close but couldn’t quite crack that level.

The total precipitation shown is 3 mm, whereas the daily amounts show only 2 mm. That's because there are four days with amounts of 0.1, 0.1, 0.1 and 0.3 mm. I show amounts only to the nearest mm, which is why there is a discrepancy.

The weather was interesting here in Kent yesterday; not nearly as much rain as up in Vancouver, but it got very windy. The lights just flickered here, but there are still widespread power outages.
The temperature climbed as the front approached. At Noon the temperature was 14.6 C then it started going up. By the time the front came through at 10:19 PM the temperature had climbed to 21.4 C, then rapidly dropped to 16.0 C after the front passed.
There were strong winds and heavy rain (at least heavy for the Seattle area) as the front passed. 8.38 MM yesterday and 12.70 mm so far today.
The above data is from my personal weather station here in Kent, not the official data for Seattle.
