I just got back from my exercise-walk. In about 30 minutes I saw six cars with Christmas trees roped to the roof!
Recently I have seen people taking Christmas trees home during my walks, but never this many on a single walk.

So exciting. I can't get my tree up for another week or so thanks to a galley re-fit taking up most of the flat ;)

If you are far north enough in the UK and have clear skies tonight apparently there's a good chance of seeing the aurora :D
Here's the UK aurora watch site (well - one of them) https://aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk/ at the moment (broad daylight) it's pretty low ;)

Thank you everyone for the Birthday wishes.

A few days ago I transcribed the Northwind log page for my exact birthday. The Northwind was berthed in Seattle, not all that far away from where I was born in Portland that day. I was disappointed that there weren't any interesting entries for the day, not even a mention of my birth. :D

You could always check Wikipedia's entry for your birthday - they have an article for each day of the year, with events, notable births, notable deaths and more.

Here's mine, for example, which has an OW-related event: "1881 – The USS Jeannette is crushed in an Arctic Ocean ice pack."

Deck the ships...

USS YORKTOWN. Shanghai China during Christmas, 1895.

USS PETREL. Laid up for the winter, inside the mud fort at Miuchwang, China during the 1890s.
Masts of British gunboat FIREBRAND are in the background. Note heavy security precautions.
Photographed on Christmas Day, note Christmas trees at mast tops.

In my experience the whalers are not big on xmas decorations :(
I found this image of a scrimshaw bauble. I think that it was originally bought from Mystic Seaport Museum:

I hurried along to their shop and found a musical snow globe! Ah - memories from a long time ago when you could buy snow globes down at the knick-knacks shop :D

If anyone decorates for Yule it'll be the Fleetwing. I'm off to have a look there tomorrow :)
