In the night from August 20th to 21st, a violent typhoon hit Nagaski - they recorded winds of force 11, and the barometer went to its minimum of 28.21!

August done. Went from Yokohama to Nagasaki, where a typhoon turned up as mentioned earlier.

Hmmm... IIRC, Godzilla sometimes got woken up from his napping by a typhoon. Better watch out.
But then again, he was first awoken/created by nuclear bombs, which wouldn't come into being for 70 years - guess the Kearsage's safe.

September done. She went to Vladivostok, according to Wiki this was to bring a bunch of scientists over to observe the transit of Venus, but that only took place on December 9th. I wonder why they left so early?

October and November done. Still in Vladivostok, which is quite cold at this time of year - I bet the crew were wishing they were back in Hawaii!

December done. After observing the Venus transit on the 9th, they left Vladdy's woodstock and returned to Nagasaki, then popped over to Shanghai in time for Christmas.

Another year completed!

The voyage for 1874 has been completed, with many thanks and gratitude to Hanibal for his great work. You can see a plot of the voyage here and, for more detail, you can download the KML file and view it with Google Earth.
