Haida departed for St. Paul Island on May 7 with no further mention of the situation at Squaw Harbor. Hopefully the Coast Guard was able to send help through some other means.

If so, it wasn't Northland. She's the only 1930 Coast Guard ship we've transcribed so far, and she was off California at that time.

There was no mention in the log of other ships at Unalaska while Haida was there. Hopefully there was further communication to coordinate that was not added to the Haida log.

Just finished May 17. The past few days have had the sloppiest log keeping I've seen. Sometimes hourly records while in port, but every four hours while at sea, one log stopped at 4PM, speed and rpm entries with no entries in Course column, and roughly a third of entries reversed for dry and wet bulb temperatures.
I wonder how much of the data entered that appears to be correct, really is. I don't have much confidence in anything this crew entered in the logs.

I've had the same concerns. I did a couple of years in the early 30s, and it was much the same. Fortunately, there are ways they can check the data.

Haida participated in a search during mid-May.
May 18
9AM to 4PM
Received request from Dr. Chase of Cordova to search off East side of Montague Island upon departing from Cordova for one skiff with 2 men and one launch with
3 men; reported missing.

May 19
7:36AM Changed course to 201 for a position off Montague Island to search for one skiff with 2 men, and one launch with 3 men.
8AM to Meridian
Kept sharp watch along shore throughout watch for sight of lost skiff and motor launch; stationed extra lookout in crow's nest.
6:00 Sighted small boat headed south from Schooner Rock.
6:05 Stopped engines; motor boat "Sultan" of Seattle came alongside. Master stated he had searched coast from Cordova to Hinchinbrook, and intended to
search Zaikof Bay and Rocky Bay tomorrow. The two men missing from Montague Island since April 1, have been located.
7:10 Maintained lookout for motor boat missing since 11 May.

After this they proceeded to Kodiak Island with no further mention of the search.

May 24:
4PM to Midnight
6:30 Fire discovered in No. 1 surf boat secured alongside. All hands took stations for fire quarters in response to general alarm. Fire in life belts in boat
and charred wooden parts was extinguished with #4 fire extinguisher and the pyrene extinguisher from motor launch. Hose led out but no water used.
12:00 Expended six life preservers (cork) damaged by fire.

Memorial Day was observed on May 31.
Day being observed as Memorial Day. All unnecessary work suspended.
9:30 Sent firing squad ashore to fire salute at graveyard.
11:15 Firing squad returned.
Meridian fired 21 minute gun salute. Colors half masted during salute.

The ship's surgeon had a busy day on June 5.
9:20 Boarding officer and Surgeon left ship in starboard surf boat to board fishing schooner Fanny Dutard.
10:43 Surf boat with boarding party returned.
11:05 Carl McGee of Centralia, Wash., next of kin, wife, Katherine McGee of Centralia, Wn. taken aboard from schooner "Fannie Dutard" for transportation to Unalaska, Alaska; suffering from chronic appendicitis. Transportation furnished at request of master and patient.
Albert C. Gruwell, Sea 1c, placed on off-duty status 9:00 A.M. by reason of disease incurred not incident to service and due to the man's own misconduct.
12:33 Boarded fishing schooner Wawona of Anacortes, Washington where ship's surgeon administered medical and dental aid to crew.
1:58 Boarded fishing schooner Sofie Christenson of Seattle, Washington, ship's surgeon sdministering medical and dental aid to crew.
