1900 Sent Garlington USN Surg, Harrison and party of seven enlisted men USN left ship (Greely relief party, passengers from New York)

I am beginning to see places in Greenland the Yantic is visiting that I have been to or passed myself.
Currently Disco Is (passed it) and Upernavik.

Yantic, Aug 2 1883, Off SE Cary Island Group, Greenland.

2100 Exec office went ashore in whale boat.
He found a boat with complete outfit, stores, and provisions, marked "Artic Relief Depot A" and with the British Broadarrow.
He also found the records deposited there on July 21 by Lieut Garlington, Com'dg the Greeley Relief party.
Left Yantics records.

Yantic, Aug 3 1883, Off Littleton Is, Greenland.

1800 Standing off waiting for parties sent ashore to erect & examine Cairns on Littleton Is.
Found cairn on SW side if island containing records of Lieut Garlington, stating that the SS Proteus had been nipped and sunk in ice pack to the Nd of Cape Sabine on the 23rd ultimo (?)
Records also stated that Lt Garlington USN & party consisting of Lt J. C. Colivill (??) USN, Dr Harrison USN, 7 enlisted men. 3 civilian employes + 2 esquimaut left Littleton Is on the 26th in 2 whale boats & dinghy steering to the Sd in hope of meeting the Yantic.
Deposited our record in the same cairn.
2145 came to in ice in Pandora Hbr.
EO Lt Green went ashore with whale boat & dinghy to examin cairns, one at entrance of harbor and another on Cairn Pt.
They returned having found information of the departure of Capt Pike & crew of Porteus with Lt Garlington & Arctic Relief Party in boats to the Sd.

The voyage for 1883 has been done, with many thanks to Stuart. This voyage had 300 hours with course changes, which may be a record. Dodging icebergs had something to do with it, I'm sure. You can see an image of the voyage

The Yantic went up the coast of Greenland to about the location I went to on my trip up there.
