We've got miserable weather up here. Have had the lights on in the house all day and it's been wet. The wind is now rising so I am thankful for a warm, dry house and have only ventured out to dispose of some rubbish and top up the bird feeders.

-10C here!
We have a white sky, but with the snow on the ground it is fairly bright out.

I try not to discuss temperature and general weather with friends and family this time of year. At most, I complain about lack of rain or winds that can drive a fire. Anything else seems insensitive. If I explain that we have traffic that rivals others' weather, everyone scoffs. (Expected high for the day LGB Airport =17 C)

Seems it IS raining in Southern California. I had not had a cumulative 0.10 inch since mid April. Today we will have a couple inches at the rate it is going. I hope some of this is stored in the mountain snow pack and does not all run off instantly. Sorry, I know this sounds trivial to many of you, but when some years we have had only 4 inches, this is big for us.
New roof holding up nicely.

Living in Scotland I find cumulative 4 inches of rain a year difficult to imagine, except in deserts. I did visit Abu Simbal in Egypt where the cumulative average is 0.1 inches per year but they use the water from the Nile. Apart from the lovely temple complex my memory is DUST. Here we've got standing water in the fields and puddles on the pavements (sidewalks) which is a problem because we're having frost at night so black ice in places. I'm scared of falling so it does make outdoor exercise a bit of a problem.

I also find 4" rain a year hard to imagine. In NW England we often have that in a few days, without it even causing a flood alert!

This morning 0C and a light dusting of snow over the remains of hailstones from a couple of nights ago. Still very overcast so not tempted to go out and investigate how slippy the paths might be.

We had 75 mm (3 inches) in one day about a week ago. The forecast calls for 127 mm over the next ten days. Mind you, Victoria is on the driest part of the island. I grew up in Dollarton, which is in the District of North Vancouver and is at the foot of Seymour Mountain. The rain here is nothing compared to the rain we got there. Mind you, about 100 km from here is:
Henderson Lake is a lake on Vancouver Island that drains south into head of Uchucklesaht Inlet on the north side of lower Alberni Inlet.

Weather data from the Henderson Lake fish hatchery shows that the lake is situated in the wettest place in North America. Henderson Lake averages 6,903 mm (271.8 in) of precipitation, and in 1997 9,307 mm (366.4 in) fell, setting the all-time Canadian record.

There's been freezing fog here the last two nights. So everything is white with a heavy frost in the mornings. Forecast is for the rains to return tonight for at least the next week. Perfect weather for Volkssport walks. :D

-2C and snowing this morning. Not very thick on the ground, yet...

(I find my reaction to snow is much more like it was as a child now I don't have to drive to work in it!)

Round about freezing up here but sleety and dark. I've a feeling we are in for another day with the lights on all day and the paths are very treacherous as I nearly found out when going outside to fill up the sunflower seed feeder for the birds and take out some rubbish. Shall I feel virtuous and do some sorting out and serious housework, I wonder?

With the bad weather you should do something fun! ;)

We had just a little snow overnight. Walking should be safe by this afternoon.

Snow last night and now what is described as freezing fog but in my lexicon mist and it is just above freezing. Tomorrow could be hairy since it is unlikely to get above freezing and the ground is well chilled anyway. I suspect that I will take one look at the black ice and stay indoors. Should start warming up Sat or Sun but then the chance of rain goes up. Ah well, typical Scottish winter. I got the shopping done this morning so will be OK for at least 10 days if the weather turns nasty.

I'm definitely going off the snow, we've had several days of it melting a bit during the day and then freezing again at night which has left the pavements very icy. Luckily today the stuff on the road has melted completely so did manage a walk (it's a quiet road!), but more snow threatened overnight.
