A bit of rain!
I doubt that it will cool things off very much, but I was so happy I almost added it to the log page I was transcribing :D

3:58 pm
Stopped already  although I still hear some thunder.

I think it cooled things off a tiny bit, but it may be my imagination.

4:06 pm
Thunder and pouring rain!

Correction to the below post.
According to the BOM the actual highest pressure observed on Thursday was 1,043.9hPa at Ouse, which would be 0.5hPa below the record set in Launceston back in June 1967.

The BOM's still displayed incompatible pressure readings as of Friday afternoon.

In short:
The weather station at Sheffield in Tasmania reported a pressure of above 1044.3 hectopascals on Thursday morning. If confirmed it beats the previous Australian record from 1967.
It is contributing to extreme low overnight temperatures over south-east states and a lengthy stretch of showery days along the eastern seaboard.

What's next? The Bureau of Meteorology expects sea levels over south-east Australia will drop accordingly.

Over here on the warmer side of Puget Sound and further from the water, the high yesterday was 34 and forecast to be warmer today and even warmer the next two days. As of 1 PM it's already 33.

I've resisted getting air conditioning so far, but with warmer summers apparently permanent and my developing asthma, I've decided it's time. Heat pumps include air filters which should help with the asthma, especially with the now annual wildfire smoke.

We're currently 28.8, but it was 30.1 a little while ago.

Furnace Creek, California, reached 128.40 F yesterday. It will be interesting to see how hot they get today. You can download their weather data here. That temperature was set at 23:03 UTC, so we might see a similar temperature there in another hour or so. Having the 1913 temperature five degrees Farenheit above the second place values seems suspicious to me.

From Wikipedia
The highest temperature recorded on Earth has been measured in three major ways: air, ground, and via satellite observation. Air measurements are used as the standard measurement due to persistent issues with unreliable ground and satellite readings. Air measurements are noted by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and Guinness World Records among others as the standard to be used for determining the official record. The current official highest registered air temperature on Earth is 56.7 °C (134.1 °F), recorded on 10 July 1913 at Furnace Creek Ranch, in Death Valley in the United States.[1] For ninety years, a former record that was measured in Libya had been in place, until it was decertified in 2012 based on evidence that it was an erroneous reading. This finding has since raised questions about the legitimacy of the 1913 record measured in Death Valley, with several meteorological experts asserting that there were similar irregularities. The WMO has stood by the record as official pending any future investigative results. If the current record were to be decertified then the holder would be a tie at 54.0 °C (129.2 °F), recorded both at Furnace Creek and in Kuwait.[a]
