Bit of a mixed bag for the east coast of NSW and Victoria. Pics from ABC.net.au
First this
and this
Then this but not necessarily in the same places.
There is a couple of fires upwind from us abt 8 and 14km away. They are not a threat to us as they are in deep bush and mountain areas (but they are hard to get to to fire fight.)
We are expecting a Southerly buster this afternoon which should help both the firefighters and our gardens after a few day in the 30s..

Sorry, I should have made it a bit clearer.
Those pics were from events in other places in the state over the last few days.
Thanks for your thoughts.
The fires near us are being brought under control.
The expected rain in our area did arrive overnight but not much. 1730 -> 0030 only 11.2mm
There is a 46% chance of rain on Friday night

Rain, rain, glorious rain!
Nothing quite like it for clearing the brain.
So follow your muddles, down to the puddles...
and there we can huddle in glorious rain!
Raining (well more like drizzle) since 0900 hrs 26th. Only 23.4mm but I can hear my garden cheering from inside.
Amended rain fall, at 0900 27th the downfall was 48.8mm
Just started again as I type.

Love the rain scale!
We were away for a week to see Zion and Bryce National Parks. We live at 35 feet+/-. Made it up to 9115 feet without too many ill effects. Thought we lived in a desert- my nose forgot how dry it can really get. Also- for as dry as it was- our car was frosted over the morning it was 28 F.
Great trip- sandwiched between stopping at Las Vegas on both ends!

The highest temperature occurred on October 07 with 23.9 degrees.
*** This sets a new October record, beating the old record of 23.5.
The lowest temperature occurred on October 28 with -2.8 degrees.
*** This sets a new October record, beating the old record of -2.1.
It's not often one month sees both a record high and a record low set. (For a station with more than 30 years of record.)
Mind you, there was a day when I was working in Edmonton, and Fort McMurray set a daily record maximum and a daily record minimum on the same day! And they had more than 30 years of record! There was also a day when we forecast a maximum temperature for the day that was below the record minimum temperature for that day. (Station with more than 30 years of record.) The next day, we forecast a maximum temperature that was only one degree above the record daily minimum for a station with 100+ years of record. We got the max temperature we forecast, so it didn't go below the record daily min.

Hi All
We have just had a significant storm pass over Southern UK. In addition to a report on damage the BBC mentioned that tea might taste slightly different due to the low pressure reducing the boiling point of water. I didn't notice that, but the item prompted me to check my barometer.
It read 968!! It probably isn't calibrated, but this is by a long way the lowest I can remember.
Apparently the Eye was 952!!
I hope it hasn't caused you any problems Caro (and anyone else in Southern England)

We're OK, thanks Keith. The coastal areas and Channel Islands have taken the brunt of the storm. We still have a yellow warning for wind and rain but we are outside the amber warning area. Stay safe, everyone.
