I've been in contact with the hosting provider, and tech support had this to say:

"Thank you for being on hold, I could see that the website is loading with good speed, As you mentioned it is intermittent, I have increased the memory limit and enabled the zlib output compressor for the website. This will helps to speedup the website on server."

I'm getting good page load times now, but we'll see.

Yes, THANK YOU. It's fine for me right now. Hopefully this will fix it.

After normal service earlier in the day we are back to really, really slow. Whatever they did is no longer working.

It was horrible this morning, but at the moment it is OK

I just had to log in but all seems to be working well again.
Hope it lasts.

My turn this time, for the first time I experience a slow loading of the forum.

Fine about 7.30am but the snail has reappeared. My 'remember me' log in also needed me to relog in.

OK here at the moment.

haven't had login issues but the forum is still very slow and creaky for me this morning
