Can't get to the article, but it certainly sounds good - the science and the article that is ;) :)

I was a happy OW volunteer on day one and I'm happy to be here on our 10th birthday.
Congratulations to every single one of us. :champagne: :D

I joined a few weeks later so I can't claim my long service award yet but I've hardly regretted a minute of the time. (I have come close when battling with simultaneous illegible logs and interface problems!!!). The people I've 'met' have been one of the big rewards. I think we need a 'Hall of Fame' for those pioneers like Pliget and Bunts who contributed so much in the early years but are no longer active. Bunts especially was a joy on the early forum.

Wow, ten years!!! I joined some time in 2011, although the old forum shows me as having been a member since 1970!

So amazing! You all are just extraordinary.

I met Philip at an ACRE meeting in Baltimore in November 2010, along with Gil - and that's when we started trying to get the US National Archives to let us photograph logbooks there...

I'm finding today quite emotional. To have fallen into OW just as I was thinking about finding some citizen science, and to find it the most wonderful home still gives me such happiness.
I've chosen this serendipitous picture because it has two ships that we know well from the logs of the Beluga during her overwintering from 1897 to 1899, the Newport and the Fearless. In 2012 OW was my 'new port' and 'fearless' describes our work in the face of the handwriting that confounds computers ;) :D I'm not sure what is represented by the britches and shirts hanging out to dry - any suggestions welcome

Here's to the next ten years....

Happy Belated Birthday shiplover!

And Happy Birthday to OW as well! Hard to believe it's really been 10 years.
For me, it feels pretty special because I was 16 at the time, but am 26 now - so I've gone through a lot of big changes in real life, but have managed to stick with OW all the way.
Meeting all the interesting people here has really helped me too. I've managed to come out of my shell, gain a lot of self-confidence and learn some valuable lessons. It's been great.

In fact, I feel like I don't need to hide behind a username anymore, so here goes: My name is Christopher, but I go by Chris, and I live in the pretty great city of Leipzig, Germany.
Many thanks to those who have befriended and helped me over the years, especially Dean, Randi, Joan and Michael. I am very proud to be a valued member of this project, and this community!

Chris

I am very happy that you have managed to stay with this project through so many changes and a very busy time!

I am also happy, and very proud of you, that you feel comfortable using your given name with us!!!

WOW! What dedication. Today, Oct 14, is celebrated in the Western Hemisphere as either Christopher Columbus Day or, more recently, Indigenous People's Day. Either way he was a still great captain and either way, Chris or Hanibal, you make my day more fun!
Thanks.
"Morgan"

It's been great watching you mature and learn to be patient with computer sub-literate old salts. I for one have been grateful for your advice over bugs, viruses and scams. I'm glad you feel able to open up to us all and hope you are still around in another 10 years.
