Transcriber Weather
Re: Transcriber Weather
The outside chairs speak to an un-dentable optimism in the depths of winter
Re: Transcriber Weather
A couple more inches fell since the photo. It is supposed to transition to a mix of rain and snow later today or tomorrow with freezing the next two nights. So conditions will quite slippery.
It's nice sitting by a fire looking out. I've only been outside long enough to measure the snow depth, take photos and let the dog out. The dog thoroughly enjoyed it; for about three minutes.

Re: Transcriber Weather
Went to a friend's this morning for my usual Sunday brunch.
The steps were great! They were, largely, dry and ice free.
Unfortunately much of the route was black ice (also called clear ice). The street and sidewalk looked as if they were wet, but it was a thin layer of ice! Even with Yaktrax I went very slowly and carefully! In retrospect, I should have promptly turned around and will the next time. However, by the time I realized how bad it was I was almost half way.
I stayed for a late lunch and by then fortunately the ice had melted.
Note: If you get any sort of pull-on spikes/chains, be sure that front part of the foot has good traction for the push off

Ah, one of the tricks I have developed is the 'penguin waddle'. Short steps with minimum push off, slow, inelegant and only suitable for short distances but reduced slippage. I came to the conclusion that I don't have the reflexes for coping with skids so for the essential short trips down the garden etc the 'waddle', while frustrating, definitely makes me feel safer.
Re: Transcriber Weather
Feeling quite spring-like today - 10C at lunchtime and the nasty wind-chill has gone.
Re: Transcriber Weather
Weather's getting better here too - still hovering around 0 C today, but it's supposed to go up a bit each day until it hits 13 C on the weekend!
Re: Transcriber Weather
What form of Yaktrax do you have Randi, please?, I've got steel coils at the front, and crampon spikes at the back. I have crampon fitments for my crutches too
Make sure to avoid their other favourite mode of transport...unless you have a hot water-bottle tucked in your jumperstudentforever wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 6:06 am Ah, one of the tricks I have developed is the 'penguin waddle'.
Re: Transcriber Weather
We're up to 3.6C with very light rain. Our snow of the ground measured 19 cm on the 13th, 27 cm on the 14th and 17 cm this morning. Now we just wait for the melt. The long term forecast has 50 mm of rain for us over the next ten days with a high of 11C for Sunday.
Re: Transcriber Weather
That looks pretty cold Randi. Watched the weather on CNN and was horrified by how bad it is. The electric outages sound like no fun at all
Re: Transcriber Weather
The snow and cold weather has ended here in the Seattle area. The temperature rose and there was heavy rain most of the day yesterday. So only patches of snow remain. The coming week is forecast to be fairly normal here with highs around 8 C and lows around 3 C and rain off and on; perfect weather for getting back outdoors again.
Re: Transcriber Weather
Our snow depth is down to 11 cm. We're cloudy, but expected to clear in the next two or three hours, getting up to about 8-10C depending won which computer model you choose. Right now it's plus 6. If I remember, when you have enough snow on the ground, 7C is usually about as mild as it gets, barring strong winds blowing in warm air. I guess we'll see.

Re: Transcriber Weather
It was supposed to snow during the afternoon and evening, but it didn't. So they changed the forecast to no snow.
Guess what
It still says no snow.
