Not sure if this qualifies as a mondegreen but at 9am 10 May 1851 Jamestown's log contained this enty
9am, loosed and exercised sails.
[Come on there topgallants, move those halliards, you laggard studding sails, think this is a pleasure cruise???!!!!]

The Belvedere (ODHS222 tape) 1897-1898 Perhaps because I'm thinking that I should be in bed by now, and because the entries in this log are so brief, I've been speed reading it. Consequently July 4th came out as
'got steam worked out of Bed go about 4 feet each way.'
which made me wonder what terrible affliction had occurred overnight.
Not to worry - it was just the ship that was having trouble getting out of bed.
