Back to red here after going orange for a few hours yesterday evening. The AQI came back up to 155 overnight. :(

There's a storm coming in with possible thunderstorms, but they don't expect the smoke to clear because flow around the storm will give us winds from the south and southwest and there is still plenty of smoke down in Oregon ready to blow in. They expect it to be a few more days before the smoke finally clears out.

I could smell salt air when I left the gym. Much better than air smelling like an old fire pit. :) :) :)

There's been a light rain for the past couple hours and it's definitely helping. AQI is down to 113 now; still unhealthy, but the lowest it's been since Sept. 10.

I hope that your rain continues to fall gently, Gordon. Sounds like the best cure at the moment :)

Time to open the windows, turn off the air filters, and breathe! :D

We turned GREEN at 1 AM and now the AQI is all the way down to 8! The same monitoring station now reports visibility to be 100 miles. You can't actually see 100 miles from here because of the surrounding hills and the clouds overhead. So I'm guessing it derives the visibility based on the air quality.

There's still no sun, but now it's because of rain clouds instead of smoke.

Now it's back to work. I've had to avoid going outdoors at all and nothing too strenuous indoors. So I have a big backlog of yard work and other projects around the house that have gone undone; not to mention a lack of exercise. I gained four lbs. during this smoke episode.

Well yesterday I woke up to speckles of white stuff on the grass and last night was forecast as being colder. Well it is almost October which when I was a kid and we had fuel rationing, was when they lit the school heating systems and the amount of coal you could buy went up. The problem is that my body takes longer to adjust these days.

This is a summary for the forecast for the next ten days here...

Maximum temperature for the period: 21
Minimum temperature for the period: 9
Total precipitation for the period: 9.1

It's hard to take, but I manage... :D

Hot dry weather has returned to California and fires getting worse again. There is a smoke plume heading up our way that they expect to arrive in a couple days. They think the smoke will remain high in the atmosphere and not cause problems, but are also saying there is a chance it will drop down to the surface and bring us yellow/moderate air quality.

The smoke did return a few days ago. The air quality has been fluctuating between green and yellow for a few days now, with an AQI of 50 being used to determine the status color. Last night it was yellow, but this morning it's at 29. Every day they say they expect the smoke to be gone the next day, but it just keeps hanging around. They recommend that people who are affected by the smoke to minimize their physical activity when it goes yellow. So I cancelled my plans for a 10K Volkssport walk yesterday.

We're at 45 now, but we have been up to 68 a couple of times and generally in the Yellow range since Oct 1, although we've been more green than yellow in the past 24 hours.
