Hi! I am new here, so tell me if I am doing this right. I would like to request to transcribe section A of the Beluga log book. I would prefer to work in Google Sheets as I don't have a personal computer at the moment so I would like to be able to access the workbook easily from different places. Thanks!

Beluga Section A stream A will be served up shortly in Google Sheets - I'll send it by personal message (PM). I hope you've got your thermals on - it's going to a really cold trip! I checked to see if he did a special meal for Easter (Thanksgiving and Christmas are quite impressive), but no luck on the cuisine front for that time.

I'm partway through part B 18970807-18980326 as of this moment. Thought I'd slide in here and officially claim it. I transcribed it, now I just need to know where to separate A. B, and C streams for the spreadsheets.

Hi April - do you want to do all of it? I'll note sections A & B for you (stream B for both of them). If you want to put them all on the same spreadsheet and chop them up later that's cool too.

Thanks! Yeah, I'll work on A & B for now and see how far I get. By the way, my library ordered that captain's memoir for me so I should be able to pick it up in the next couple of days. I'll keep you posted on what it's like.

Yep she's a good'un alright. I sometimes feel like standing on my head to read Capt Bodfishes' end of line squiggles Make sure you've got a good thick pair of slippers on, and a thick woolly jumper too... you're going to be stuck in the high Arctic for a looooong time !
Let me know if you are a Librecalc, google-sheets, or Excel user and I'll set you off on stream C.

Yes please! You certainly may do Section C, Stream A (Captain ) in excel
I'll set the transcription workbook up for you. I'll enter the first two weeks to give you a flying start. I'll drop you a personal message with a few more details and the links to the workbook and your own folder on the OldWeather Whaling googledrive.

Hello Mer - and welcome! I managed to miss out shiplover completing stream C. I've got all of the sections starting with Section B available* (the stream is not important) so if you are happy to start from there that would be great. I'll set up the transcription workbook and complete the first two weeks for you to give you a flying start/taster. I'll send you a private message (PM) with the links and more information. Expect to ask lots of questions - these logs can be awkward to work with
*You can read all of the log of course!

If you'd rather work right through a log the Orca 1897 still needs a third transcriber. She is part of the 1897-99 nightmare of iced-in whalers, but back at Point Barrow rather than at Herschel Island with the Beluga. Orca sinks in 1897. I'll presume that you want Beluga for now.
