Unfortunately, those logs don't seem to have been digitized.

What a great story. The current press should take up running stories of the past- like this one- to keep perspective and provide insight into creative alternatives in altercations.

NY Times says: "7.0-Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Northern California and Prompts Tsunami Warning"

Morgan: Hopefully you are far enough south not to have been significantly affected?
Gordon: Hopefully you are far enough north not to have been significantly affected?

Anyone else close enough to feel it?

I'm roughly 500 miles in a straight line from the center of the quake. So I only heard about it on the news. I grew up very close to there though.

It's nearly 700 miles from us. It was my next Northen California trip destination. I've only been as far north as Eureka,else we flew over the top to Oregan and Washington. Hope everyone in the cold is in and safe.

From Bluesky:
Ed Hawkins
@edhawkins.org

For those in the UK following Storm Darragh, the weather warnings have undoubtedly saved lives today.

We might remember Robert FitzRoy who, after a similar storm in 1859 which sank the Royal Charter ship with 450 lives (and a lot of gold) lost, had the idea for 'weather forecasts'...

Some more interesting info from the Australian ABC web site.

The climate spiral animation is an interesting way of showing the monthly global temperature anomalies from 1880 through to October, 2024.

I thought I escaped without it being noticed.

Thank you everyone.

You know you're getting old when it's too dangerous for the birthday cake to have candles. If my cake had enough candles it would have been encased in wax by the time they were blown out.
