The log pages for December 16 and 17 are odd. ? :? ?

Page 510 appears to be normal for Dec. 16.
Page 511 has the date Dec. 16, but only has the first shift logged. However, the event text is nearly the same as the first shift for Dec. 17 on the next page.
Page 512 has the date Dec. 17 and appears to be the full log for that day.

I transcribed page 511 as it appears because the text is slightly different. I included a transcriber's note on the page and in the tracking log.

Flat Hat ?

"US ORIGINAL WW2 WWII Coast Guard Donald Duck Flat Cap"

Not CALVIN NELSON's first misfortune...

I bet no one on Concord got written up for possession of someone else's clothes.

Yes, I thought it looked like flat hat, but had never heard of that. I'll modify the xml file before submitting it.

On Dec. 29 Captain's Mast was held for the above cases.

The voyage for 1953 has been done, and so ends our work on USCGC Storis! You can see the voyage plot here and, for more detail, you can download the KML file from here. It can be viewed in Google Earth and it contains data for each hour.
