Not exactly Scrabble...

Post by Randi »

SCRABBLE. A badly written log. This term is used by the translators of the Bible at David's feigned madness, when he "scrabbled on the doors of the gate." The Sailor's Word-Book

(E10 to E04) Manatee Awareness Month (November)

Boca Raton, FL – As we enter November, it's time to reflect on an important anniversary for Florida's iconic marine mammal:
Manatee Awareness Month is a month-long celebration dedicated to raising awareness about manatees, their conservation status, and the actions individuals can take to contribute to their protection.

7Th Nov 1861
Naval forces under the command of Flag Officer Samuel DuPont steam into (H5) Port Royal Sound, South Carolina, pouring withering fire into Forts Beauregard and Walker and forcing the Confederates to abandon the positions. With only minor resistance from a Confederate squadron, the Union ships put ashore landing parties that occupy the forts until relieved by Army troops under General William T. Sherman. The capture of Port Royal yields 43 Confederate cannon, and the victorious Du Pont writes, “It is not my temper to rejoice over fallen foes, but this must be a gloomy night in Charleston.”

G6 across BEAVER MOON
https://www.almanac.com/content/novembe ... s-folklore
November’s full Moon is traditionally called the Beaver Moon. In the colonial era, this was the month to set one’s
beaver traps before the swamps froze and beavers retired to their lodges, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs.
In 2024, November’s full Moon occurs on Friday, November 15.

The full moon in November is also known as the (F11 down) Frost Moon, Frosty Moon, or Snow Moon, especially in northeastern North America.

6th Nov 1865
The Confederate raider EDITED (I11-I20) Shenandoah arrives at Liverpool, England. Upon being informed by the British Foreign Ministry that the Civil War has ended, skipper Lieutenant James I. Waddell lowers the last official Confederate flag.

Not sure which version of the flag that was.

A17 Down NINE Originally November was the ninth month. They changed the calendar, but didn't go back and rearrange the months.
