As someone living in the UK which gets a lot of benefit from the Gulf Stream I am happy to be coming to the end of my time on earth (at least in the context of climate change). I am really sorry for those young OWers or those with children and grandchildren because the consequences could be dire. I do predict that administrators will ignore things until the last minute and then proceed to throw money at the problems in panic mode or throw up their collective hands in horror and probably emigrate to carefully pre-purchased 'holiday homes'.
Re: Chat
The sad thing is that once we go over a sufficient number of tipping points, there is nothing they can do because we'll be in a positive feedback loop. Once you've driven over a cliff, it's too late to say, "I think I should put on the brakes now."

Some of us (like me) are very close (one year) to twice your age, enjoy your youth.
I am full of replacement parts with another one going in today.

Good luck with the replacements. I've got 3 and signals say that if I don't pop my clogs I'm heading for a 4th. Hope the rehab goes well, take it steadily but at frequent intervals. I must admit they call out the bomb squad when I go through those metal detectors, good thing I'm not flying anywhere at the moment.

I've got 2 hips and 1 knee and the 2nd knee is feeling hard done by and starting to complain. Upper limb major joints OK (so far) but fingers have nodules so distorted and stiff. Last time I checked finger joint replacements were'nt that good so soldier on. I've probably got a bit more metal than you (mainly titanium alloy) - recommend Glasgow airport, they have a soft x-ray machine for people like us, v low radiation dose but picks up dodgy items for further investigation. Try wearing shorts and show off your scars at other check sites - can't guarantee that one though. Above all keep smiling - produces extra endorphins so they say.

Our step-daughter is part owner of a small northern airline. She always gets checked going through security at various airports. One day, she asked the security officer why was she always getting checked when it was supposed to be a random check. The lady told her, and she said not to tell anyone, but they always checked people who seemed to be nice. It kept their stats up, and they didn't have to deal with nasty aggressive people.
So, when going through security scowl and berate people in general.

Doesn't work at Charles de Gaulle. When asked to stand in an open space on one leg while she inspected the shoe on the other leg after my refusal (my balance isn't bad but not that good) she subjected me to a 'searching' examination in full view of the queue. If I am unfortunate enough to use that airport again I shall buy a cheap bikini suitable for an aging woman and don a nice cotton jersey dress over the top. If I meet someone like her I will merely remove the dress, point out the scars (the knee was a reoperation and the scar is impressive) and create a scene having carefully prepared some suitably pithy french. French is quite expressive, not as good as Greek which is a strongly stressed language, but I'm sure I can manage to sound reasonably convincing. If the watching queue put it on U tube or somesuch it should bring out the disability lobby to discredit the airport. I was travelling with a group who went to the airport in several taxis and a girl in a different taxi (much younger) was in tears after her brush with the same woman. Complaints to the airport went nowhere.

I cannot remember at which airport, but it was before the circular scanner, the guy asked to see the scars on my knees and I said I could not pull my jeans up over the knee I would have to drop my pants. He said pass on.

Back when they first had the walk through scanners, I would set them off every time. I would have absolutely nothing metal on me. My pockets were empty, my belt off, my glasses off. They would have me go through a couple of times and it would go off every time.

One of the people, who wanted to run for the B. C. Conservatives in the provincial election last week, said that Covid vaccines give you magnetism. I thought it was silly, but you have shown that he was, in fact, correct!ggordon wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 9:35 pm Back when they first had the walk through scanners, I would set them off every time. That same month, the Conservatives cut Dr. Stephen Malthouse as a candidate in Ladysmith-Oceanside for his views on COVID-19, including the claim that the COVID-19 vaccine caused magnetism.
