Still participating in the festivities, but no salute for King Rex today.

dressed ship in rainbow, in honor of Rex, King of the Carnival with Rex flag at the main.
Sunset
hauled down rainbow and mast head flags.

dressed ship with U.S. Ensigns at mast-heads.
8AM to Noon
Rear Admiral Preble visited the ship and was received with the customary honors. At noon fired a national salute of 21 guns.
Meridian to 4PM
Rear Adm. Wyman U.S.N. visited the ship and was received with customary honors.
Sunset
hauled down masthead flags.

February is complete.

Other than Mardis Gras, not much of interest. Still sitting in port at New Orleans recruiting lots of boys and shipping them off in groups of 30 or so to various locations for training.

Sailed from New Orleans to Kingston, Jamaica. Spent a couple of days there and now headed for St. Thomas.

April 27 at Hampton Roads, Virginia:

Meridian to 4PM
12:30 sighted the U.S.S. Tallapoosa standing in for the harbor with the American Ensign at the main. At 12:50 the fleet manned yards and fired salutes in honor of the presence of the President of the United States. The Tallapoosa anchored at 1:15. At 1:40 the Commanding Officer left the ship to pay his respects to the President.
4PM to 8PM
5:40 German Corvette "Luise" came in and anchored in the Roads and immediately fired a salute of 21 guns with American Ensign at the fore. At 6:15 Tennessee answered with 21 guns, German Ensign at fore. At 6:18 the Luise fired a salute of 21 guns - American Ensign a the main. At 6:20 Tennessee returned the salute of 21 guns - German flag at the fore. At 6:22 Luise fired a salute of 13 guns - hoisted jib and American Ensign at the fore. The Tennessee returned the salute gun for gun hoisting jib and German Flag at the fore.
