I've seen several logs with red or brown ink that seem to be added later. Sometimes entries are crossed out, or Lats and or Longs are added to the left of the weather tables. I suspect they are for entering data in the "squares". Things like Marsden Squares, that they used to build up a climatology for the oceans.

The voyage for 1885 has been completed in record time, due to the careful work by Gordon! :D You can see a plot of the voyage here and, for more detail, you can download the KML file and view it with Google Earth. There were a few mentions of people here.

The voyage for 1885 has been completed in record time, due to the careful work by Gordon!
It helped that the logs tended to be very legible for a change. :D

I must say though that this was the most boring set of logs I've transcribed; especially the extended stay at Callao; although that was likely a factor in Michael being able to process the voyage in record time.

That, and cruising along the west coast of South America. There are only a few islands, one short river, which they didn't enter, and just a handful of ports to visit, so I don't spend any time looking for and cataloguing names, other than for the hospital you found! :D
