As I approach the end of Dec 1868, here are some of the entries I found interesting/significant over the course of the year (including one death, which started out as a usual absent-without-leave, so was a bit shocked when the body was reported found.) :

1200h The annual Nagasaki Regatta took place. Ashuelot (being the Judges' Stand) was visited by a large number of people to witness the races. Our launch pulled by our sailors, and the USS Onwards' launch pulled by our firemen and coalheavers. We won a first prize and two second prizes.

0800h Found that Alfred H Insey (Seaman) was absent from the ship without permission. Sent a description list of him to the US Marshal and offered a reward of Ten Dollars for his delivery on board.
