What terrible news. I was wondering about Gil, Larry and Chesley. If I'm correct, they all live in the area. Like Joan, I'm glad that Gil and his family are safe. As someone who lost his house in a fire, I can imagine how horrible they must be feeling.

Wishing you the best of luck from Downunder.
(We also know what bushfires are like.)

Some friends had their house burn down, rebuilt and burn down AGAIN in a short number of years due to bush fires.
It will be hard but you will get through it.

Best whishes
Stuart.

Bushfires are terrifying.
I'm so relieved to hear that Gil and family are safe.

That news brings the devastation home to me. It always seems more 'real' somehow when it involves someone you know (even if only on-line). So glad they are all safe. I do hope they will be able to sort out their lives fairly soon.

That's terrible! I'm so sorry to hear about Gil. My cousin and his wife's home got taken in the same fire. Luckily, they were able to escape to my aunt's house with some essentials.

Sorry to hear that your cousin and his wife lost their house - and undoubtedly many non-essentials that will be much missed.

April I'm so sorry to hear that some of your family were also caught up in this fire. It's good to know that they were able to take a few things with them and stay with our aunt. :(

Oh, April, that's so sad. My heart goes out to them and all the other people who lost their homes.

A Very Happy Belated Birthday to our own Captain Morgan!

I thought a nice Long Island Iced Tea (using Captain Morgan Rum of course) might be right!
I bet it will go well with Randi's cake

OH! THANK YOU, THANK YOU! THANK YOU. I was gone for a week visiting my new (first) grandbaby (and my daughter and son-in-law) and come back to great e-treats. Thanks for all the lovely sentiments.

It seems wrong to be so elated with another year when some many are in such terrible circumstances. My sympathy to all who lost homes in the fire, and of course all who are caught up one way or another in the pandemic. In the New Year, Stay safe and well, all.
Morgan.

It's that time of year again! Strangely the BBC is showing 'In the Heart of the Sea' tonight (the film of the book of the journey that inspired 'Moby Dick')

The amazing New Bedford Whaling Museum MOBY-DICK MARATHON 2022

January 7-9, 2022 | Virtual
The 2022 Moby-Dick Marathon will be entirely virtual, but with all the same marathon fun and buzz!
'One of the world’s best known readings of Herman Melville’s iconic American novel Moby-Dick takes place every January at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.'

'This year’s marathon will be entirely virtual, but that won’t stop literary aficionados, school children, and everyone in between from traveling back in time to accompany narrator Ishmael on the epic hunt for the elusive white whale.'
