Navy PB4Y circling overhead. Plane requests VIA radio that we put in at cove at San Nicolas Island as we are in firing area. 1259 Changed course to 270'(T) approaching San Nicolas Island. 1316 Lying to three miles south east of San Nicolas Island.

1537 Received clearance from plane (LOON PURPLE ONE). Resumed standard speed on course 210'(T) pgc 192' psc.

The voyage for 1947 has been completed, with many thanks to the crew:

This voyage is noteworthy for travelling 38,000 miles and for being our first ship in the Antarctic with the voyage stretching from 71.84N to 78.5S.

You can see a plot of the voyage here and, for more detail, you can download the KML file and view it with Google Earth. There were several people mentioned here.
