The Commanding Officer was about to seize the schooner, when it was discovered that on account of a recent libel issued against her, the Deputy Marshall was in charge. At this point there appeared Mr McCoskin, who had documents, proving him to represent the -administaitors of the estate of Andrew Osterberg who desired possession to settle up the estate. The Commanding Officer sent a written request to Deputy Marshall to put McCoskin in charge, informing the Deputy Marshal of the facts in the case, and warning him in case he did not, to deliver the schooner to no one but the Commanding Officer of the "Bear". All this because the U.S. Commissioners at Nome City declared he had no jurisdiction in the case.. Rec'd on board for St Michael, C W Uptegrove, R H Parker & W B Buckley."
