krwood wrote: Mon Oct 18, 2021 10:18 pm I can now tell you that we played a small role in the identification of the BEAR wreck. Using the logs imaged for Old Weather we provided the NOAA search team was able to determine that there should be no ship's engine at the site. All the details:

That's great. Lots of interesting background on the Bear from that link, only had to stop reading as I need to go out soon!

Oh my goodness - they found the Bear. And OW played a part in that. For the immense good that the Bear did in its active history and for giving us back the history of the weather, we played a little part in finding her. Gosh that makes me feel good :heart:

They are a dodgy looking bunch of penguins. They steal pebbles off each other, money laundering is just the next step on I reckon. Macaronis (the one with the dodgy hairdo) stand really close to each other and look like they are whispering secrets - probably working out the dividends from their ill-begotten funds. And that group of Kings look like they are waiting for an illegal boat to arrive on the next tide.
The Adelie is The Security Operative - they take no hostages, and don't mind taking on any other bird on the beach.
A rum bunch of coves if you ask me! :D

An interesting visual description of what could happen if we do not keep Climate Change in check.

After finishing the voyage for Chelan, 1929, I thought it would be a good time to get an idea of what we have done with the the Old Weather project:
  • 102 Files with Weather data: 607,000 lines of data;
  • 51 Files with Ice but no weather data: 170,000 lines of data; and,
  • 13 Files with only position data: with 53,000 lines of data.
The total: 830,00 lines of data in 166 files!

I think we should take a moment to pat ourselves on the back. :D :D :D
