Re: Chat
Thanks for the well wishes
Been a busy few days for me, starting a new job next week and preparing for a house move is pretty stressful

Prepping for the move is easy. Everything goes into boxes.
Setting up at the new place is the hard bit. Now which box is THAT in.

I knew you could see it from Tas, but not as well as these pics show.

Re: Chat
wow what a photo shot! Even has that famous Green flash in the sunset very lovely.
I have a question: In reading things in the past year I ran across the name "Moosebrugger" somewhere. It struck me because I know someone by that very uncommon name. I ran into the individual I know today and YES his grandfather was Commander Fredrick Moosebrugger. I see Googling his name that he was in the Aleutians during WWII. Does anyone have a better memory than I have? Have you run across the Commander?
Thanks,
Morgan

Re: Chat
I just received this e-mail message from my local power company.
Coming soon: Community Solar
Community Solar is a new renewable energy program that offers 100% local solar energy without having to invest in or install your own rooftop solar panels.
This program allows you to subscribe to shares in a newly constructed, local solar energy project site of your choice and receive bill credits for the energy that your shares generate from the power of the sun.
Take the next step toward a clean energy future by participating in renewable energy and helping local solar energy production take root in our communities.
Learn more about the solar installations coming soon to your community and sign up today to be one of the first to know when you can subscribe to 100% local solar energy!
Re: Chat
I just got a little more information. Shares become available once the project has been built and online. It only costs $20 US per share per month and then you get a monthly credit to your power bill according to how much power your share has generated that month. They point out that summer will likely generate more power than winter.
The first of these projects will be available in a few months.
It will be interesting to see whether a share will generate more power than the cost of the share. If so, it's a far easier way for homeowners or apartment dwellers to indirectly get solar power.

Re: Chat
That does sound amazing Gordon. Certainly encourages the support of the right kind of energy. Just out of interest - they do use solar power to do all those calculations, they must do surely? In which case they should rush to help those daft bitcoin things.

Re: Chat
On a cost/kWh your $20 would earn more in a 1mW system than in a 100kW system when infrastructure costs are amortised.
If you are just buying a part of one panel for $20 then don't expect a big return soon but over the years I think it should work out OK.
On Climate change our beloved ABC news put this out.

More sun should = more solar power.
More sun could = more bush fires = less solar power from hazy skies.

Re: Chat
There are two of the solar projects currently under construction and due to be completed soon.
A 200 kW system is being installed on the roof of a high school and will have 135 shares.
A much bigger 5 MW solar array is being constructed east of the Cascades, where there is much more sun. It will have 3,400 shares.
I plan to invest in them. It will be interesting to see whether I come out ahead.
