Caro, hope you're having a great birthday! Cake, wine and flamingo tea seems to be a good start

Thank you for the birthday wishes.

The cake embodies the mountains and forests of the Pacific Northwest that drew me back here 30 years ago.

As I write this I'm enjoying a Rusty Nail from Seattle's Fremont Brewing, which they describe as, "Bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with licorice and cinnamon bark". It's quite special and something I only enjoy on special occasions.

Stuart, after several medical setbacks the past couple of years, my health is rapidly improving and I'm again becoming quite active. I did a wonderfully refreshing 5k forest walk in the rain today and hope to be back to doing 10k walks again soon. So at 72 I am again looking forward to a wonderful life ahead.

Happy Belated Birthday, Gordon!

A long, refreshing walk in the woods sounds like a great way to celebrate.

Quote from Gordan.

We have a different drink called a 'Rusty Nail'
A rusty nail is a cocktail made by mixing Scotch whisky with Drambuie in a 1:1 to 2:1 ratio. A rusty nail is most commonly served on the rocks in an old-fashioned glass, although it can also be served "up" in a stemmed glass. Wikipedia
On a river cruise (with an open bar) I used to start the day with a beer and finish with a Rusty Nail.

Have you tried the Founders KBS stout, Here is an imperial stout brewed with a massive amount of coffee and chocolates, then cave-aged in oak bourbon barrels for an entire year to make sure wonderful bourbon undertones come through in the finish. Makes your taste buds squeal with delight.

KBS stands for "Kentucky Breakfast Stout" 11.2% Alc by Vol. [Drink with care]

Is stout good for you?
It's not that bad for you on a basic nutritional level - the average pint has about 180-200 calories, 1.9 g of protein and 18.2g carbs. It also contains 14mcg of Folate (Folic acid, which is a B vitamin) and 185mg of Polyphenols, which can help prevent degenerative diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Glad to hear your health is improving, looks like a stout or two may help.

The craft beer store near here sells several different versions of Founders KBS stout. I have a couple of them down in my beer cellar now, but not one with coffee.

Stouts are hard to find in the stores here, except for the craft beer store. They have three coolers dedicated just to stouts, with I'd say roughly 120 or so different stouts, that they rotate. I go there every couple of months to stock up and by then over half of them have been replaced with something new. I was in heaven when I walked in the first time.

The Fremont Rusty Nail has 14.1% alcohol; so only consumed on special occasions (if it's available).
