Re: Transcriber Weather
Now it's September the northern English weather seems to have decided it's summer. No rain for 2 or 3 days. Mostly sunny today with max 23C. Forecast for the next week mostly sunny with max 24-26C.

Re: Chat
Interesting. I've not heard of her but have heard of similar stories involving 'witches' burials. It was not safe to be a slightly strange old woman, you seem to get blamed for anything going wrong. (Must remember to stop talking to that black cat that occasionally wanders through my garden!)

Re: Coronavirus
Hope the family feel better soon, arboggs Fingers crossed your dad doesn't develop any long term problems and you get the sort of job which gives you the health benefits and uses your expertise as well. The dear old NHS jabs me frequently, one consequence of getting old. I suspect you might not qual...

Re: Transcriber Weather
I have been trying to persuade the clouds to go where they would be more welcome but it doesn't seem to be working.
Got very wet yesterday volunteering with Lancashire Wildlife Trust (although the sun did come out in the evening). Woken by thunderstorm about 4am, still raining now.

Re: Transcriber Weather
From UK Weather: When will it stop raining? Some places have even seen their wettest Julys on record, such as Castlederg in County Tyrone, NI, and Preston in north-west England. Both stations have seen two to three times the average July rainfall. I'm just a few miles away from Preston and this does...

Re: Transcriber Weather
Just to contrast with the very hot and dry weather in southern Europe, had a weekend of almost continuous rain in northern England, particularly heavy on Sunday. 3-4" in total. Lots of flooded roads and flood warnings for the rivers. Max temp 17C. Is it still July?

Re: Transcriber Weather
Normal summer service for the weather in the UK has been resumed. Apart from about 10 mins of drizzle last Sunday there had been no rain for weeks here until this morning (and more forecast for later). Although some of my friends, who live about 10 miles away, had a torrential thunderstorm last Mond...

Re: Where is Pommystuart?
5. Horatio Nelson and HMS Victory. When we did the tour (even more years ago than the holiday to the Isle of Wight) there was a raised plaque to mark the spot where he fell and the guide made the joke that he wasn't surprised Nelson fell there as it was very easy to trip over.

Re: Where is Pommystuart?
The coloured sands come from Alum Bay. I did have some from a family holiday (many years ago!) but no idea what became of it. Bought in the gift shop not from dangling on ropes.
