Re: Australian Logs - May 1892 to July 1892 ACRE Project (Atmospheric Circulation Reconstructions over the Earth)

Many thanks to all, once again. I am extremely lucky to benefit from all your experience. I had no idea what St. Elmo's Lights were. That was very interesting to learn. Great explanation here: https://sky-lights.org/2013/03/04/qa-st-elmos-fire-explained. Thank you also, for the resources. I will def...

Re: Australian Logs - May 1892 to July 1892 ACRE Project (Atmospheric Circulation Reconstructions over the Earth)

Hi Everyone. I am back after taking a short break from my project to focus on my studies at university. I am having some trouble interpreting some of the handwriting with the following log (still on the Freiburg). Specifically, the general remarks on: 20/5, 25/5, and 30/5. It's the first time I've s...

Hi Stuart You can view the website here: https://www.met-acre.net/ At the moment, it is not available to be set up online. I use a spreadsheet, Google Earth, and an image viewer. If you want to send me a direct message with your email, I can send it through to my Climate Science teacher, and one of ...

Re: Australian Logs - May 1892 to July 1892 ACRE Project (Atmospheric Circulation Reconstructions over the Earth)

Thanks all for your invaluable help, including the Lloyd's list of ships, the Old Weather Library section for Ships Names , and the other resources suggested. All are very helpful for the future.

This forum is fantastic, and I am looking forward to becoming more involved.

Australian Logs - May 1892 to July 1892 ACRE Project (Atmospheric Circulation Reconstructions over the Earth)

Once again, thank you for welcoming me to the Old Weather Forum. I am a Climate Science student from Brisbane, Australia. I am undertaking a project digitising old ship weather logs with ACRE. The biggest learning curve for me is interpreting the handwriting and some of the symbols that were used. A...

Hi Everyone. I am having trouble interpreting the general comments section of the image I have linked. I am still new to digitising ship logs and still trying to get used to handwriting. Your help will be appreciated. Link to the shared file from my Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SA2...

Re: Handwriting - Help with interpreting ship name

Hi Michael.

My apologies for the oversight in your reply. I am not using a particular interface. A combination of photos of the logs, Excel, and Google Earth seems to be fit for purpose.
