Re: Introduce yourself
I've been working on Old Weather since last April, but I haven't actually introduced myself. I'm a retired engineer who's looking for worthwhile projects to work on. I'm also taking AI classes with IBM; both to keep my mind sharp and to potentially do some contract work if I get good enough at it. I...

This is just a heads-up: I'm working on Lackawanna January 1875, but the Transcription Status sheet still shows that it's available. I just wanted to make sure that someone else didn't try to work on it and we had a duplication.

I'll take Lackawanna January 1875 next. The log starts with the "Observation for determining the local deviation of the standard liquid azimuth compass..." Do these entries need to be transcribed? If so, is there an example I can go by? https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/dc-metro/...

Re: Natural Phenomena
The Lackawanna log book stated that there was a total eclipse of the moon sometime between 4 and 8 PM on October 25th, 1874. The Lackawanna was anchored off Yokohama Japan.

Does anyone know what will happen to the data we're generating if NOAA's status changes? Is this data directly used by any other institutions or is controlled by NOAA?

Hello,
I just want to verify that ships mentioned in the logs with the designation PMSS (Pacific Mail) aren't supposed to be noted since they are owned by a private company, is that correct?

I have another one on the same log image. It's the very last entry on the Events page (8 PM to Midnight). It looks like it might be saying "sighted cape 'Seivo Light'", but I can't find anything like that anywhere. Any idea what it could be? https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/dc-m...

LibreOffice - Event Input wizard
Is anyone having problems with the Event Input Wizard? Whenever I try to select it I get a "Something went wrong. Please try again." popup message. The Lat/Long Wizard and the Sea Surface Temp Wizard appear to be working fine, it's just the Event Input Wizard that's giving me problems.
