On the weather page, please enter: date, locations, distances (knots and fathoms), courses, and all the weather data in the columns outlined in red in the spreadsheet.
However, entries such as Ebb and Flood in the knots and fathoms columns can be omitted. In this case and other cases where no distance is specified, entries in the courses steered column indicate the ship's alignment rather displacement and can also omitted.
It is not necessary to record Leeway or State of the Sea.
However, ice mentioned in the weather grid should be transcribed using the magenta State of the Sea column.

On the events page please enter: ice, location information, and sailing information.
Aurorae, volcanic, and seismic activity should be reported in the forum.
The names of US Navy and Coast Guard ships met should be noted. This gives the science team a chance to compare weather readings. You can include all ships mentioned in a single entry without a time or any additional data.
Other events are optional.

One person can do both weather and events (Stream 1), but the system also allows one person to do the weather page (Stream 1) and a second person to do the events page (Stream 3).
Unlike in OW3, where three transcriptions were required for each page, we are doing only one transcription per page.

Every transcriber needs to enter the date.
The date is used to organize the pages.

When I was working at the Yukon Weather Centre, I would often get requests for me to create something or do something etc. If I didn't think it was worthwhile, I would tell the person that it was number 2 on my list of things to do. The trick was that it would stay at number two forever, and there could be more than one thing at number two. When budget cuts finally closed our office, and it was my last day of work, Rob, one of the people from Environment Canada Water Surveys, asked me if I could create some climate elements so that my climate manager programs would work with water survey data. (Hourly Temperature's Element Number is 78. Those Element Numbers are associated with a set of values so the climate programs knew how to handle them.) Anyway, I told Rob that it was Number Two on my list. He said that they really weren't all that desperate for me to create these new element numbers, so could I, perhaps, move it down the list to Number Three. I told him that was possible, but only if there was beer involved. Anyway, I went for lunch and, when I returned, there was a case of beer on my desk!

Needless to say, I created the Element Numbers, which I was going to do in any case.

Some of the stores around here have Moose Drool. It's not one of my favorites, but popular among those who like brown ales.

A couple of days later we have this entry.

Rec'd from Rec'g ship "Ohio" John T Collins (OS) in place of John Wright (OS) who has assumed the name of Collins and returned Wright.

They got fines 2 Months pay, 3 months extra duty and 6 month deprivation of liberty in foreign stations for the offence.
That is setting the standard.
Lets see if anybody else is game to go ashore without permission.

In the log under Weather (wx) appears what looks like a 'h' (Hail) and a symbol I cannot recognize (maybe a w, Wet, or Heavy dew) comparing the weather page and events page which shows a pleasant day.
