Glad to hear you all like it - this was one of the hardest pictures EVER for me! It spent over a year lying around in my folder before I finally came up with something.

One thing I'm curious about: When I post a new entry, do any of you only look at the picture and try to guess what the caption could be, or do you just look at the whole thing?

I find it difficult to work out what the picture is about relative to OW without the caption.
If your not on the ship or at the place then it's to hard for me.

I stop and look at the picture first with the intention of recording as much of it as possible in my mind. Then I read your caption and laugh my head off.
One of my favourite types of comedy is describing an event in minute detail whilst highlighting it's silly side. Your pictures hit that mark every time around Carry on the good work. I'm so impressed that you have a portfolio ready to answer any call of high humour from the log books,

Thanks for the compliments, everyone - I will most certainly carry on!

I get most of the images from Wikipedia, as it has a lot of artworks (e.g. under their "Picture of the Day" thing) and the links never rot.
Sometimes, I will also do a Google Image search on a specific artist and see what I find.
As for the creativity - well, I guess practice makes perfect. It was more difficult at first, but I have gotten better over the years.

Also: Feel free to submit images or potential captions/ideas - I can't guarantee that I will use them, but if I do use them, I will definitely give you credit!

I certainly look at the whole picture. You have increased my interest in art! With my kids, when they were small, to be quietly entertained, we would often make up stories about the situation we were experiencing. (Who really were the people sitting at the table across the restaurant and the like.) With a bit of the sea or OW in mind- I look at the whole picture and now do not feel constrained to exactly what the artist may have intended, but can consider the back story. My art history education was VERY narrow minded.
